Teaching philosophy

I believe that everyone, regardless of age, can learn to play an instrument at a high level. Learning an instrument teaches you valuable skills that transfer into every aspect of your life. I believe that the best teachers help you learn how to teach yourself.

In addition to a caring teacher, young students need daily practice, structure, and a fun and positive learning environment in order to achieve success on their instrument. This sounds easier than it is, but the reward is extraordinary. Students who overcome all the challenges of learning an instrument are better prepared to problem-solve and take on other challenges that come their way.

For students in middle school and beyond, I aim to develop a methodical style of practice that will help them teach themselves. I have learned from experience that discipline and quality practice are crucial to learning and mastering an instrument. My goal is to inspire my students to practice and play expressively, channeling their real feelings and experiences into musical expression.
